Based on the best-selling historical novel by Dan Simmons, the show will recount the fictionalised tale of British explorer Sir John Franklin's doomed 1845 expedition to try and charter the then-fabled Northwest passage, a route between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans from Europe through the Arctic.
