Photovoltaic Cell - This is the essential piece of any solar platform. Known as a PV cell, it is generally a small cell containing a silicon compound under glass. When the sun hits the cell, the silicon undergoes an electrical reaction that produces a charge. The charge is gathered by small wires. Depending upon the nature of the cell, each need to produce roughly half a volt.
